No. 2 Georgia defeated Vanderbilt 38-14 in Athens on Oct. 3, a game highlighted for the Commodores by Junior Sherrill’s continued climb through the program record book.

Sherrill caught a season-high seven passes for 107 yards, his second 100-yard receiving game of the season. His 60-yard touchdown reception from Blaze Berlowitz in the first quarter was Vanderbilt’s longest play of the season and the longest catch of Sherrill’s career.

The senior wide receiver extended his reception streak to 42 games, the longest active run in the FBS and Vanderbilt’s longest since 1996. Sherrill also tied Carl Parker for eighth in school history with 16 receiving touchdowns and moved into 10th place on Vanderbilt’s career receiving list with 1,962 yards. He has posted at least three catches and 70 receiving yards in 10 consecutive games.

Berlowitz threw for a career-high 190 yards in his first SEC start, including 162 yards before halftime. The senior quarterback finished with a career-high 227 yards of total offense and led Vanderbilt with 37 rushing yards. His touchdown throw to Sherrill was the longest completion of his career.

Sedrick Alexander added a 2-yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter, extending his scoring streak to five games. The senior running back now ranks second in Vanderbilt history with 31 total touchdowns and third with 25 rushing scores.

Defensively, CJ Heard matched his season high with nine tackles for the second straight week and recorded his third sack of the season. Vanderbilt’s defense has registered a sack in nine consecutive games dating to last season. Bryan Longwell made a tackle in his 42nd straight game and a solo tackle for the 29th consecutive contest.
