Sherrill reaches 2,000 yards in Vanderbilt loss
The Commodores lost 52-17 to No. 9/11 Ole Miss as Sherrill extended his FBS-leading reception streak to 43 games.

Vanderbilt fell 52-17 to No. 9/11 Ole Miss on Oct. 10 in Nashville, but Junior Sherrill added two receiving milestones to his place in the program record book.
Sherrill became the ninth Commodore to surpass 2,000 career receiving yards. He finished the game with 2,017 career yards, ninth in school history, and extended his reception streak to 43 consecutive games. Vanderbilt said that is the longest active streak in the FBS and the program’s longest since 1996.
The senior wide receiver also has recorded at least four catches and 50 receiving yards in each of his past 11 games.
Vanderbilt scored two second-half touchdowns. Ja’Cory Thomas caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from Jared Curtis in the third quarter for his first score of the season. Curtis now has five passing touchdowns at Vanderbilt. In the fourth quarter, a 1-yard touchdown run gave Jamezell Lassiter his first score of the season and third with the Commodores.
Brock Taylor supplied Vanderbilt’s other points with a 45-yard field goal. His five points moved him into second place on the school’s career scoring list with 226. With 37 career field goals, he is one short of Vanderbilt’s top five.
Makhilyn Young rushed for 40 yards, including a 34-yard run that became Vanderbilt’s longest rushing play of the season. CJ Heard recorded his first interception of the season and second of his career, giving the Commodores five interceptions this season.
Nick Rinaldi led Vanderbilt with seven tackles, and Miles Capers recorded his second sack of the season to reach 10.5 career sacks. The defense has produced a sack in 10 consecutive games dating to last season.
The announced sellout crowd of 35,000 extended Vanderbilt’s home sellout streak to eight games dating to last season.
