Swann, Bothwell and McVay left off initial report
The three offensive players each exited last week’s game at Texas, while Mississippi State still has multiple defensive absences.

Mississippi State quarterback AJ Swann, running back Fluff Bothwell and left tackle Miles McVay were not listed on Wednesday night’s initial SEC availability report for Saturday’s Week 10 game against Vanderbilt.
All three exited last week’s game at Texas with injuries. Swann, making his first appearance and first start since transferring into the program, left during the second quarter after taking a hit to his throwing arm. Bothwell and McVay departed in the second half.
Swann entered Mississippi State with previous starting experience at Appalachian State and Vanderbilt. Coach Jeff Lebby had cited lingering injuries when explaining why Swann was behind Billy Puckett on the depth chart, but Swann received additional practice repetitions before starting in Austin.
Bothwell’s exit followed an earlier absence. After being injured against Missouri, he missed two weeks. He played one drive against Alabama in Week Five and did not appear against LSU.
The Bulldogs still have concerns on defense. Linebacker Tyler Lockhart, who missed the Texas game after playing in each of Mississippi State’s first seven contests, is questionable against Vanderbilt. Defenders Isaac Smith and Derion Gullette are listed as out.
Why it matters
Swann had just made his first Mississippi State start after previously sitting behind Puckett on the depth chart. Bothwell’s latest exit followed an earlier injury that kept him out for most of two games.
What to watch next
Mississippi State faces Vanderbilt on Saturday, with Lockhart listed as questionable and Smith and Gullette out.
