Colin Simmons named Lombardi Award semifinalist
The Texas junior leads the FBS with 10.5 sacks and 16 tackles for loss through six appearances.

Texas junior edge rusher Colin Simmons was named one of 12 semifinalists for the 2026 Lombardi Award, the award committee announced Tuesday.
Simmons leads the FBS with 10.5 sacks and 16 tackles for loss. He missed the Longhorns’ last two games with an injury. In six appearances, the Dallas native has recorded 25 total tackles, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and four quarterback hurries.
Simmons has created negative plays at a national-leading rate in sacks and tackles for loss.
He is the second Texas player in three years to reach the Lombardi Award semifinalist stage. Former Longhorn Kelvin Banks Jr. won the award in 2024.
Why it matters
Simmons has earned national award recognition while leading the FBS in sacks and tackles for loss. His selection also gives Texas a second Lombardi Award semifinalist in three years after Kelvin Banks Jr. won in 2024.
What to watch next
The next award development is whether Simmons advances beyond the 12 semifinalists.
