The Tigers entered halftime tied 14-14 after Austin Simmons found Cayden Lee for a 27-yard touchdown with 30 seconds remaining. Woodyard then forced and recovered an Isaiah Marshall fumble at the Kansas 35. The takeaway set up Simmons’ 8-yard touchdown pass to Donovan Olugbode for Missouri’s first lead.
On Kansas’ next snap, Woodyard intercepted Marshall and returned the ball 28 yards to the Jayhawks’ 12. Xai’Shaun Edwards scored on a 10-yard run, giving Missouri a 28-14 lead only 28 seconds after the previous touchdown.
Missouri finished with 469 total yards while holding Kansas to 255. Simmons completed 19 of 29 passes for 292 yards and three touchdowns, including a late 13-yard scoring pass to Brett Norfleet on fourth down.
Jamal Roberts added 125 rushing yards on 28 carries, highlighted by a career-long 64-yard touchdown in the second quarter. Olugbode caught six passes for 121 yards, while Lee had six receptions for 120 yards.
The Tigers controlled the late stages by running on 15 consecutive fourth-quarter snaps. Blake Craig’s 32-yard field goal extended the lead to 31-21 with 11:46 remaining before the Simmons-to-Norfleet touchdown closed the scoring.
That finish followed an uneven opening marked by dropped passes, two blocked field goals and penalties. Missouri still produced the game’s decisive stretch, outscoring Kansas 14-0 in the third quarter and turning both takeaways into short-field touchdowns.
The victory moved Missouri to 2-0 and extended its regular-season nonconference winning streak to 15 games. With five straight wins against Kansas, the Tigers matched the longest streak in series history. Missouri now leads the rivalry 59-54-9. It was Missouri’s first victory in Lawrence since 2001.
