Diego Pavia brought No. 15/16 Vanderbilt back from a 17-3 first-half deficit Saturday, leading the Commodores to a 45-38 overtime win over Auburn at sold-out FirstBank Stadium.

Pavia produced a career-best 489 yards of offense, passing for a career-high 377 yards and rushing for 112. He accounted for four touchdowns, three through the air and one on the ground, while becoming the first Vanderbilt player to record 300 passing yards and 100 rushing yards in a game.

Auburn led 20-10 at halftime before Vanderbilt moved ahead 31-30 early in the fourth quarter. The Tigers tied the game at 38 with 5:27 left in regulation, but Vanderbilt struck first in overtime when Pavia found tight end Cole Spence on a jump pass from the 4-yard line.

Auburn reached the Vanderbilt 12 on its overtime possession before an incomplete fourth-down pass to the end zone ended the game. Linebacker Bryan Longwell led the Commodores with 13 tackles, while defensive back Randon Fontenette made a season-high eight stops.

Vanderbilt finished with 544 total yards, its highest output against an SEC opponent since gaining 608 against Tennessee in 2016. The Commodores’ 45 points were also the most scored against Auburn’s defense that season.

Tight end Eli Stowers set career highs with 12 catches for 122 yards. On three receptions, including a 57-yard touchdown, wide receiver Tre Richardson gained 124 yards.

The victory moved Vanderbilt to 8-2, giving the program eight wins in a season for the first time since the 2013 team finished with nine. The Commodores also reached 8-2 through 10 games for the first time since 1930 and defeated Auburn in consecutive seasons for the first time since the 1949-50 campaigns.
