Follow the full play-by-play and box score →No. 11 LSU produced 731 yards of offense and six rushing touchdowns in a 63-14 win over McNeese on Saturday night in Death Valley. The victory moved the Tigers to 4-1.
Quarterback Sam Leavitt completed 18 of 23 passes for 176 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Corey Barber Jr. caught seven passes and scored twice, while Roman Mothershed made his first reception of the season on a 1-yard touchdown in the first quarter.
LSU turned Tamarcus Cooley’s 21-yard interception return into the opening touchdown, a 1-yard run by Dilin Jones. Princewill Umanmielen and Mekhi Blockton supplied the pressure on Cooley’s interception, and Umanmielen later ended a McNeese possession with a third-down sack.
The Tigers led 35-0 at halftime, then widened the margin with an unusual scoring run from freshman defensive tackle Deuce Geralds. Geralds took a direct snap for a 1-yard touchdown to finish an 81-yard drive.
Harlem Berry followed with an 11-yard score and finished with a career-high 125 yards on 15 carries. Stacy Gage added touchdown runs of 46 and 39 yards in the fourth quarter, both after McNeese had scored twice late in the third.
Jones, Clark, Berry, Geralds and Gage each scored on the ground, with Gage reaching the end zone twice. LSU’s six rushing touchdowns were its most in a game since the Tigers also scored six against Northwestern State on Sept. 14, 2019.
McNeese’s Jaamal Levi accounted for both Cowboys touchdowns, catching a 43-yard pass from Brady Barrier and breaking a 64-yard run. LSU answered those quick scores with two long Gage touchdown runs to close the scoring.
Why it matters
The win moved LSU to 4-1 after an offensive performance totaling 731 yards. The Tigers’ six rushing touchdowns were their most in one game since matching that total against Northwestern State in 2019.
