No. 8 Oklahoma beat No. 22 Missouri 17-6 on Saturday in Norman, turning a blocked field goal and an 87-yard touchdown into the game’s decisive sequence. The Sooners improved to 9-2 overall and 5-2 in the SEC, while the Tigers fell to 7-4 and 3-4.

Missouri opened with a 14-play drive and Robert Meyer’s 39-yard field goal, then drove to the Oklahoma 17 early in the second quarter. Peyton Bowen blocked Meyer’s 35-yard attempt. Three plays later, John Mateer found Isaiah Sategna III on a crossing route for an 87-yard touchdown. Oklahoma had gained only 20 yards before that play.

After a short Missouri punt, Oklahoma took possession at the Tigers’ 35. Mateer converted third-and-10 with a 15-yard run before hitting Javonnie Gibson for an 8-yard play-action touchdown. The Sooners led 14-3 with 2:22 left in the half.

Beau Pribula, returning for his first game since an ankle injury four weeks earlier, answered by completing four straight passes for 63 yards. Missouri reached the Oklahoma 3 but settled for Oliver Robbins’ 21-yard field goal with 17 seconds remaining before halftime.

Tate Sandell added a 45-yard field goal on Oklahoma’s first second-half possession. Both defenses forced three three-and-outs after halftime, and Oklahoma intercepted Pribula twice.

Missouri still had a fourth-quarter opening after Pribula completed gains of 23, 37 and five yards to Kevin Coleman Jr. Facing fourth-and-two at the Oklahoma 21, Pribula’s end-zone pass went off Coleman’s fingertips. Eli Bowen later ended Missouri’s final possession with an interception at the Oklahoma 20.

Pribula finished 20 of 36 for 231 yards, while Coleman caught seven passes for 115 yards. Oklahoma’s fourth-ranked rushing defense held Missouri to 70 rushing yards, including 57 yards on 17 carries by national rushing leader Ahmad Hardy. The Sooners also recorded four sacks.

Missouri’s defense kept the Tigers within range, holding Oklahoma to 276 total yards. Josiah Trotter led Missouri with 13 tackles, and Mateer completed 14 of 30 passes for 173 yards while taking two sacks.

Why it matters

Oklahoma moved to 9-2 overall and 5-2 in SEC play behind a defense that held Missouri to six points and 70 rushing yards. Missouri dropped to 7-4 and 3-4 despite allowing only 276 total yards.
