Hollywood Smothers out for rest of 2026
Raleek Brown takes over the primary workload as No. 7 Texas prepares to visit No. 18 Missouri.

Texas running back Hollywood Smothers has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2026 season after dealing with several injuries, On3 Texas reported. Smothers appeared in six games and missed two before shifting his focus toward 2027.
He finishes the season with 69 carries for 283 yards and two touchdowns, plus 10 receptions for 79 yards and another score. Both rushing touchdowns came in the fourth quarter of Texas’ comeback victory over then-No. 1 Ohio State in Week 2.
Smothers has a fifth year of eligibility available in 2027 if he chooses to use it at Texas or another school.
Raleek Brown now carries the primary workload for No. 7 Texas, which enters Saturday’s road game against No. 18 Missouri at 6-2. Brown leads the Longhorns with 92 carries, 452 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns, while adding 12 catches for 54 yards and one score.
Sophomore Michael Terry III and freshman Derrek Cooper are the next options. Terry produced 41 yards and a touchdown on eight carries against Ole Miss, while Cooper has 29 attempts this season but has also dealt with injuries.
Why it matters
Texas loses a versatile back who accounted for 362 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns this season. Brown becomes the clear lead option during a November stretch that begins with both Texas and Missouri at 6-2.
